Arturo BrachettiTouring in Italy, September – December! Arturo Brachetti was born in Turin, in Italy, the town considered one of the three magical points in Europe (Turin, Lyon, Prague). Since childhood he plays with a little puppet theatre everyday. His father puts him in a seminary where he meets Father Silvio Mantelli, a young priest who has the hobby of magic. Spending all time in the magical warehouse of the priest Arturo learns all kind of magic tricks. At the age of 15, with some costumes borrowed by the college's theatre he performs his first quick-change act. He rediscovers the art of quick-change, disappeared since the death of Fregoli (1936). Supported by Italian friends magicians and especially by the complaint president Alberto Sitta he realizes an act with six characters changing costumes at light speed. This is just the begin. He leaves Italy in 1979 for Paris and it's the begin of the success. His repertoire now has expanded considerably. Starting off with only a suitcase, six quick-change costumes and one act, he is now an actor, director, quick-change comedian, magician and shadow player and he owns more that 350 costumes since last count.
For detailed curriculum, please look at the page THE ACTOR It is this unique and extraordinary ability of not only transforming on stage from one costume to another but also giving life to his characters that has made him known internationally. An example of this could be seen in his play, "I Massibilli" , in which he interprets 33 different roles, in "Brachetti in Techincolor" in which he does more than 40 characters or more recently in his One Man Show "The man with 1000 faces" in which he plays 80 characters in 100 changes In some of his shorter comical pieces (including Aida, Carmen, Madame Butterfly, The West and The Diva's Dressing Room ) he sings and plays all the roles with relative interaction between each character. In his more thematic poetical pieces ( The Four Seasons, Adventure into Color, Magritte, Fellini.... ), Arturo creates not only characters, but also an atmosphere in which the viewer is transported into a world of surrealistic magic and beauty. His professional career began in France at the Parisian cabaret, Paradis Latin then under the direction of Jean Marie Riviére. This lead to the starring role in André Heller's triumphant touring German production of " Flic Flak ". Then from Germany to England appearing at London's Piccadilly Theatre starring in his own production of "Y" , he was nominated for the prestigious SWET AWARD (equivalent to the Broadway Tony Award). That same year he was requested to perform at " The Covent Garden Christmas Gala " in the presence of the English Royal Family. On his return to Italy he participated as a fixed star guest in 10 televised transmissions of "Al Paradise" for the Italian National Television, RAI. It was after this that he was introduced into the Italian theatre scene. This lead to a string of successful theatre productions ( M. Butterfly, L' Histoire du Soldat, Varietà, In Principio Arturo, Amami Arturo, Il Mistero dei Bastardi Assassini, etc), and television appearances making him one of the most admired young actors of the Italian stage. He returned to London to perform in Tony Harrison' National Theatre production of "Square Rounds" . He later served as presenter of "The Best of Magic" for Thames Television. Then off to Disneyland-Paris where he co-hosted with Mickey Mouse for Walt Disney's Buena Vista Productions "A Night of Magic" which was transmitted internationally . From 1994, with the Italian production company Compagnia Della Rancia and the director Saverio Marconi, Arturo continued to concentrate on creating and developing musicals in Italian. His original musical "Fregoli" won the Biglietto D'Oro (Golden Ticket Award) for the best selling show in a season (280,000 tickets). His popularity continued with the production of " Brachetti in Techincolor" Recently he was Puck in a "rave version "of " Midsummer's Night Dream" by William Shakespeare His appearance at the life episode of the Drew Carey Show from the Warner Studios, Hollywood, in 1999 has given him the title of "the pick of the day" in the program Access Hollywood. In summer 1999 he has presented his new One Man Show in Montreal, produced by the Just for laughs festival . With this show, The Man With a Thousand Faces (more than 80 transformations in a big setting), he won the Moliere Award in Paris (Tony Award) and the the Olivier Award in Canada in 2000. After 700 sold out performances in Paris in a 1800 seats theatre, the show is still on a world tour. Arturo has directed various productions in Italy and Germany. The latest theatrical show he directed, Anplagghed, is the best selling show 2005/6 in Italy and it’s going to be released as feature movie in the cinemas for Christmas 2006.
