Alex Nussbaum

In the not too distant past, Alex Nussbaum made his living by designing characters and locations for such animated television programs as Bob & Margaret, Franklin the Turtle, and The Magic School Bus. Drawing by day and joking by night. Much like a superhero, if you will. Please do.

Deciding that it was time for a change, he resolved to make an honest woman of stand-up and elevated his part-time commitment to full-time status. Soon after, Alex rose to the top of the Canadian comedy scene, as evidenced by his 2004 Canadian Comedy Award nomination for Best Male Stand up.

As a stand-up comic, he has a uniquely silly yet clever style that has prompted Toronto's chronicler of the comedy scene, Now Magazine, to recently ask, "Why isn't Alex Nussbaum a star?"  Alex's mother and landlord are both inclined to agree.

At one point, the Canada TV People gave him his own hour-long nationally televised Comedy Now stand-up special for CTV and The Comedy Network.  He also happened to appear on CBC's The Sean Cullen Show, ABC Family Channel's This Time Around, CTV's Comedy Inc., he's a regular favourite on Much Music's very popular, Video on Trial, and had been duly rewarded with a recurring character role on Toronto ONE's The Toronto Show. Alex will also make smash appearances in Paul Gross's miniseries, The Trojan Horse, not to mention a new film produced by Elton John's Rocket Pictures, entitled It's a Boy Girl Thing.

Oh, did we tell you about the CBC pilot called Obitz that he just shot? Now we did.

As well as touring regularly as a stand-up comedian, Alex also spends his time writing on animated programs including Untalkative Bunny, The Secret World of Benjamin Bear, 6teen, Ruby Gloom and a show in development for YTV that we'd rather not specify at this time due to legal constraints.  Also, let's not forget that he wrote sketch comedy for CTV's Comedy Inc.

Alex has appeared numerous times at the prestigious Just For Laughs International Comedy Festival in Montreal - mind you, not against his will. His involvment in the Homegrown Competition got the attention of The Hollywood Reporter who named him as a "face to watch". He has since noticed people watching his face. Alex was invited to perform at the Vancouver International Comedy Festival and has returned to Just for Laughs to tape a Gala show hosted by Jim Belushi which has aired on TV around the globe, thank goodness.
