• Sketch 22

    Featuring the creative wits of Rob MacDonald, Graham Putnam, Jason Rogerson, Andrew Sprague, Dennis Trainor, and Harmony Wagner, Sketch-22 explores the Island way of life through original and satirical live sketches and videos that blend together seamlessly to create an evening of uproarious laughter and unforgettable characters.

     

    In the summer of 2004, the troupe debuted to positive reviews at The Guild in Charlottetown.   In 2005, they appeared on CBC Radio's Madly Off in All Directions with Lorne Elliott at the Confederation Centre of the Arts and launched their website, www.sketch22.ca That summer, a second season of all new comedy was presented at both The Guild and the Harbourfront Jubilee Theatre in Summerside.  In October, they were a showcase artist at Contact East 2005 in Summerside and had one of their videos screened at Sketchfest, Toronto's sketch comedy festival.  The group finished up the year with an all original Sketch-22 Christmas Show.  In January, 2006, the group made a second appearance on Madly Off in All Directions.  Later that month, Sketch-22 was invited to Halifax to audition for CBC-TV's sketch comedy television special, Sketch with Kevin MacDonald.  For their third season of all new material, Harmony Wagner, the group's first female performer, was added to the mix.  The season was capped off with five performances at the Atlantic Fringe Festival in Halifax.  In 2007, the group's fourth season, Sketch-22 produced another new show and  were showcase artists at the first annual PEI Fringe Festival.  The troupe were a top five finalist in website Funny or Die's search for the funniest Canadian video.  They finished the year with a remounting of their Christmas show.

     

    Reviewing the show's debut production, Charles Mandel, entertainment columnist with The Guardian, called the show "Irreverent?  You bet!  And very funny too."  In her review of the second season, Norah Pendergast with The Buzz called the show " ...as memorable and hilarious as any show, any time, anywhere."  On the show's third season, Ann Thurlow with The Guardian wrote: "The group makes awe inspiring transitions between the video pieces and the live action..." while Alix MacLean with The Buzz said "Sketch-22 is a raunchy show, but in all the right places."  In the most recent review for Sketch-22's Christmas Show, Mille Clarkes wrote. "Overall the show is right on par with the best sketch comedies of our age...Mr. Show, Kids in the Hall - you have a new solider in your ranks."

     

    The group looks forward to presenting another season of original sketch comedy to Islanders and visitors alike in 2008.
