Debra DiGiovanni, one of Canada’s fastest rising standup talents, started her comedy career in 2000 when she entered Humber College’s first Comedy Writing and Performance course. In her second semester there, she vowed to get up on stage at least once a week. Debra’s humour lies in her unflinching honesty and openness. Her comedy has a sharp edge while maintaining a happy, playful air with an act so personal everyone can relate to it.

She was nominated for the Phil Hartman Award in 2000 and the Tim Sims Comedy Encouragement Award in 2002. In 2003 she won the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Stand-up Newcomer and was nominated again in 2005. Toronto’s NOW Magazine calls her act one of the “Top 10 Comedy Performances” of the year and she was voted the “Best Stand Up to see after a Messy Break Up”.

Debra is a regular headliner at such comedy clubs as Club 54, Laff Resort and The House of Comedy. In 2005, Debra performed at the Just for Laughs festival in Montreal and her own “Comedy Now” special aired on CTV and the Comedy Network. She performed her first gala at the Halifax Comedy Festival in April 2005 and can be heard on CBC radio regularly. In addition to being a sought after headliner, she is also a writer and an accomplished voice performer and can be regularly seen on Muchmusic’s highest rated show, “Video On Trial” along with its spinoff “Stars on Trial”.
