Vidur Kapur

Thursday August 23rd @ 9:30pm - "Laughing Out Loud:  Starring Vidur Kapur" at NYC's Gotham Comedy Club (208 W 23rd Street).

Vidur Kapur is the notorious Indian bad boy of the comedy world … or at least as notoriously bad as an upper middle class former corporate executive of an internationally known firm with a PhD in Economics from the University of Chicago can be. As India’s only openly gay comedian, Vidur has a performance that is personal, vulnerable and brutally honest, sharing his experiences with issues such as homophobia, racism, classism, sexism, cultural sensitivities and gender identity.

Vidur’s unique and hilarious tirade incorporates his life experiences of being a gay Indian immigrant in an upper middle class family focused on arranged marriages and caste status, a preppy graduate from The London School of Economics, a chic urban trend-crazy fashion victim fag in West Hollywood and Manhattan, a blue chip employee, an 80’s Boy George/Madonna wannabe freak, and a person horrified at being mistaken for a terrorist in a post-9/11 America.

Currently based in New York, Vidur is a regular on the New York comedy scene including the Gotham Comedy Club. He has toured internationally, performing at colleges and festivals across the US and Canada including an appearance at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival in July 2006, and performed to sold out crowds in Bangalore and Bombay, India. He has been seen on MTV World, MTV’s “LOGOTV”, MTV DESI’s “Maximum Party” NBC’s “Last Comic Standing”, PBS’s “Asian America”, QTN, CFMT – Ishtyle TV, TV Asia, CBC’s “Halifax Comedy Festival”. He is also a regular on National Public Radio. He has been featured in Time Out New York, The San Francisco, NYC Pride Guide 2004, The Bay Area Reporter, HX Magazine, India Abroad, Little India Magazine, The Toronto Star and Desiclub.com. In 2005, he was nominated for “Favourite South Asian Comedian” in the South Asian Media Awards.
