Of French Canadian descent, she was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, where she began her broadcasting career as a student, and continued to host both French and English radio and television shows in Montreal and Toronto. She became the first woman in Canada to front a major market morning show, hosting “Carla & Company” on Toronto’s MIX 99.9. In 1990, as an anchor at The Weather Network, her constant jokes and unique forecasts, including her “All-Request Weather Weekend”, led to the start of her comedy career. Carla continued her television career as host of the Toronto daytime talk show “Eye On Toronto”. In 1995, she began co-hosting CTV entertainment news magazine “Entertainment Now” and more recently, she hosted CTV variety series “Sonic Temple”. Carla’s string of television series appearances include Pax TV's “Doc”, Noggin's “Degrassi: The Next Generation”, Oxygen/Showcase's “Show Me Yours”, YTV's “The Zack Files” as well as “Tracker”, “Paradise Falls”, “Starhunter 2300”, “The City” and “Screech Owls”. In 2000, she secured her own half-hour comedy series “Chez Carla” on The Comedy Network and in 2001, her first solo stand-up special, “The Wonder Bra Years”, which aired on both The Comedy Network and CTV, captured a Gold Award for Best TV Comedy Special at Worldfest: Houston International Film and Television Festival. In 2001, she made her feature film debut alongside Samuel L. Jackson in “Caveman’s Valentine”. As Pop Culture editor for Inside Entertainment magazine, she has written for a variety of publications including Flare, Canadian Living, the Globe and Mail, the Toronto Sun and Elle magazine. She also wrote a rejected Penthouse Letter using the pseudonym Juan Tibonia. An accomplished stand-up comedian, she has performed at the Vancouver Comedy festival, the Winnipeg Comedy Festival and the Las Vegas Comedy Festival and Montreal’s renowned Just for Laughs festival, where she shot the comedy special “Front Row at Just For Laughs”. She is also a regular at clubs such as The Improv and The Comedy Store in Los Angeles, as well as Yuk Yuks in Toronto.
